WEST MIDS MINISTER IN CRASAC FACT FINDING MISSION
Regional Minister for the West Midlands and Stourbridge MP, Lynda Waltho, will be in Coventry on Friday, to visit Coventry Rape and Sexual Assault Centre (CRASAC). The fact-finding mission coincides with a visit to CRASAC from the domestic violence charity, Refuge’s, chief executive, Sandra Horley.
Regional Minister Lynda, who launched the ‘4 ways to speak out against domestic violence’ campaign, with Hollywood starlet, Reese Witherspoon, will be visiting CRASAC’s premises to hear from staff about the work they do; learn about what pressures domestic and sexual violence organisations face financially; and speak with local officials in an effort to bring together local and national government in tackling sexual assault.
Lynda said: <>“CRASAC is nationally recognised as a shining example of how to support people who’ve suffered from rape and sexual assault. Sustainable funding is recognised as a key issue in Government, of how to tackle the issues that CRASAC deals with, so that we can continue the historic rise in convictions for perpetrators of sexual assault”/<>
“I’m coming to CRASAC to meet face to face with the people that help survivors of rape and sexual assault every day to see what the Government can do, locally and nationally, to improve provision of services for victims of rape and sexual assault.”
Coventry MP, Jim Cunningham, last year tabled a motion in the House of Commons, calling for enhanced support for rape crisis centres.
Lynda concluded: “I know from having talked to Jim Cunningham how well valued CRASAC is locally. I’m hoping to be able to learn from the work that they do and take their expertise back to Government, so we can better support these groups who do so much to support sexual assault survivors”
