DON’T FEEL THE BIG FREEZE WITH WINTER FUEL SUPPORT, URGES LOCAL MP
Lynda Waltho MP has welcomed Government funds of £2.7billion to fight fuel poverty, as the area is gripped by the coldest weather in recent years.
The MP said: “The Government is committed to tackling fuel poverty and has already put in place a number of measures to help those vulnerable to fuel poverty.”
Winter Fuel Payments which has helped over 12.3 million older people in around 9 million households with fuel bills. The Government made an additional payment of £100 for households with someone aged 80 and £50 for those with someone aged 60-79 making their Winter Fuel Payment £400 and £250 respectively.
The MP continued: “No-one should have to worry about turning on the heating, especially in the cold weather we’re experiencing at the moment. The Government is making the increased cold weather payment from £8.50 to £25 for winter 2009-10.”
The Warm Front Scheme has assisted 2 million households since June 2000. A Warm Front Grant of up to £3,500 can provide a package of tailored insulation and heating improvements and energy advice for vulnerable private sector households across England. Those on Pension Credit can qualify for Warm Front assistance.
