LYE CAMPAIGNERS IN THE PINK FOR NATIONAL CAMPAIGN
Community campaigners in Lye held a ‘Pink Party’ recently, to raise awareness about a national breast cancer campaign. Lye Community Centre played host to an event to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with fundraising stalls and a raffle, where Stourbridge MP, Lynda Waltho was on hand to meet campaigners and the public who’d come along to the event.
Lynda said: “It was great to see so many people come out to support the ‘Pink Party’ in Lye. Most people know someone who’s been affected by breast cancer and so I think people are happy to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month with events like the Pink Party.”
Every year in the UK nearly 46,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer. Breakthrough Breast Cancer raises awareness of the disease and money to fund research into preventing and curing it.
The Stourbridge MP concluded: “The team in Lye pulled out all the stops for the Pink Party and local businesses have been really generous in offering some prizes for the fundraising raffle. Everyone who organised and came along to the ‘Pink Party’ has done amazing to raise over £250.
“The Pink Party in Lye has raised money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Equally important though, is that it’s raised awareness of a disease which affects lots of local people. It’s great to see the community pulling together to fight breast cancer”
