STUDENTS ENCOURAGED TO WRITE FOR WESTMINSTER
Stourbridge MP, Lynda Waltho today urged local schools to get involved in the Parliamentary Press Gallery’s schools’ writing competition.
The aim of the competition is to 'promote awareness and discussion of the values of parliamentary democracy and the political process'.
Schools from all over the UK have been competing since the inaugural competition in 2003. The winners, with a parent or guardian, are invited to stay overnight in a top London hotel and then spend the day at Westminster. The day starts with meeting top political journalists, a tour of Parliament and an award ceremony presented by Mr Speaker in Speaker's House.
Lynda Waltho MP said: "This is the opportunity for Stourbridge students to participate in the democratic process and have our say about how the country is run in the next five years by writing about what they want included in the political parties’ manifestos.
"The journalists in Parliament are asking our aspiring writers to put forward ideas for inclusion in those manifestos. This year all three party leaders will receive a copy of the finalists’ essays for their consideration."
For further details of the competition, interested students should contact Lynda Waltho MP’s office on 01384 374356 or visit the website www.writenow.org..uk
