MP CALLS TIME ON LACKLUSTRE LICENSING

Licensing plans for the Old Bank Buildings on Coventry Street have come under fire from Stourbridge MP, Lynda Waltho, who’s written to the council asking them to remember local residents’ concerns when granting licenses to a planned development on the site.

Said Lynda: “The council can’t be allowed to forget local residents around Coventry Street, when considering licensing for the Old Bank Buildings development.”

Applications have been submitted to supply alcohol from 10am until 1.30am with no provision of food after 9pm and music until 2am The granting of this license would go against the current Cumulative Impact Policy for Stourbridge town centre in relation to crime and disorder, placing extra strain on public services like the police and paramedics. Council street cleaners have expressed concern about the impact irresponsibly licensed venue would have.

“I hope the council will make the right choices about the Old Bank Buildings. It’s important to allow new businesses to develop in Stourbridge, but the council needs to seriously reconsider using its powers to keep a venue open ‘til 2am in a residential area.

Dudley Council have the power to limit the effects of late-license venues. I hope, for once, they use them.”
