CENOTAPH CALL FROM MP LYNDA
Stourbridge MP, Lynda Waltho, has called for the council to bring forward its plans to make the Mary Stevens Park Cenotaph fit for the veterans who it means so much to.
Lynda said: “The least Dudley Council can do for our local veterans, is make sure that they can access the cenotaph to pay their respects and remember their wartime experiences.”
In a letter to Dudley Council, Lynda has asked for some practical measures to be taken, to make the cenotaph fit for local veterans, their families, friends and supporters, like widening the path round the monument so it’s accessible by people using wheelchairs and electrical scooters.
The Stourbridge MP continued: “It’s taken the council far too long to do absolutely nothing on this issue. It’s not rocket science to widen a path to make the Mary Stevens Park cenotaph accessible by local veterans.
“I talk to local veterans, young and old, including some with disabilities, who because they use a wheelchair can’t gather with comrades to pay their respects at the cenotaph.
“I’m calling on the council to just for once stop its policy of flimflam decision making and honour veterans who just want to pay their respects.
“I hope another year isn’t allowed to go by without the council doing the right thing at the cenotaph. If nothing else, hopefully they’ll replace the memorial plaques stolen from the Mary Stevens memorial”
