LOCAL BUREAUX 70 YEARS’ YOUNG
The Citizens Advice Bureau in Dudley was celebrating 70 years of serving the local community recently, with a knowledge fair to let people know the services they offer and just how they can help.
Local MP, Lynda Waltho, was on hand to take part and meet staff who are celebrating the success of the CAB.
Said the local MP:
“Congratulations to our local Citizens Advice Bureaux on such a landmark anniversary. It’s only because of the help of hundred of volunteers, that down the years the CAB has been able to help so many people.”
Today, the CAB helps 12,000 people a year with issues including debt, employment law and discrimination. The bureau has reported as 23% rise in people accessing their services since the start of the economic downturn.
Lynda Waltho MP continued: “I’ve lived in locally for my whole professional life and time and again I’ve met people who have been helped by our local CAB. Since I became the local MP I’ve noticed this even more.
“More people are using the services of the CAB during the recession and the Government backs CAB’s with the Financial Inclusion Fund.
“Yet again, on their 70th anniversary I’m so impressed by our local CAB. I’m going to take what I’ve learned from them to Westminster to make sure the Government is offering them every possible help in their work that’s vital for our local community.”
