FINEST HOUR AT AMBLECOTE COMMUNITY SAFETY DAY
Lynda Waltho MP was at the Amblecote community safety day recently, organised by local Community Support officer, Chanel Campbell. The community safety day had activities to mark the 70th anniversary of the start of World War II, for older people in Amblecote, many of whom were on hand with memories of the war. The event was also a chance for police to talk to older people about safety in the community.
During the day, Lynda talked to many people who attended and addressed the whole group about the World War II theme of the event and the community safety, describing how police could help them.
Lynda Waltho said: “Today was a great chance for people to come together and learn about community safety while sharing memories about the outbreak of the war, which affected so many people’s lives.
“PCSO Campbell and West Midlands police should be congratulated for using an innovative event like this to talk to people about community safety, in an enjoyable setting, where they could share memories of a time in history in which many of them were involved.”
During the event, Lynda talked to people who had come to the community safety day both about their experiences of World War II and about Community Safety. People that attended the Amblecote Community Safety Day could take part in activities including a sing song, an interactive display of war-time pictures and a tea dance.
After the event, Lynda Waltho said: “Vera Lynn clearly had a better voice than me, but it’s been lovely to listen to and join in with some songs from days gone by. Hopefully this will one of many chances for local people to learn about community safety in such an enjoyable setting”
