‘Residents Deserve Action from the Council’
Local MP, Lynda Waltho is supporting residents of Baylie Court who have been plagued by gangs of ‘boy racers’ using the Bell Street Car Park as a race track late into the night. Some of the young people, have been seen drinking and drug taking and exchange has also been seen taking place, making life a misery for many of the elderly residents.
Lynda said: “My constituents complained to me that late into the night these ‘racers’ have been driving around the car park in timed lap type races. They are plagued by the most awful car squealing noise late as well as very loud thumping music from cars parked to view the racing.’
“The local police have been moving them on whenever possible but of course they can’t be on permanent duty there as they will be needed to attend elsewhere in the town.
“I would like the Council to consider closing the car park at a sensible time after the last event on at the Town Hall or Leisure Centre and to make sure their staff secure and patrol the area.
Now that the Council has taken over responsibility for parking and of course they own the carpark it would be a sensible way forward. Many of the residents in Bailie Court are elderly and their lives are being made hell during the evening and late into the night. The noise carries straight into the lounges, kitchens and bedrooms of the residents. The Council owes it to their residents to be a good neighbour and take steps to ensure that the carpark is being used for the right purpose.
