Lynda as an MPLynda has a great love and ambition for Stourbridge and was elected as the Labour MP for Stourbridge in May 2005, with four main priorities: 1. Revitalising neighbourhoods and town centre; 2. Protecting the environment; 3. Providing jobs and training; 4. Reforming public services. She has a strong belief that Labour must work in partnership with schools, colleges, council bodies, churches, public and private bodies, local businesses, and community and voluntary organisations. Stourbridge is a fantastic place to live and work, full of honest and hardworking people, and there is still a great sense of pride and passion within the community. Pride in our history and passion for our future. Since 2005, Lynda has been working hard to achieve these priorities. She launched a successful campaign with Object in April 2008, for stronger legislation on the licensing of lap dancing clubs to allow local people to object to applications to open lap dancing clubs and to be given the same licensing categorisation as sex shops and sex cinemas. The Home Secretary recently announced changes to lap dancing licensing agreeing to reclassify lap dancing clubs as 'sex establishments'. Lynda successfully campaigned to keep Post Office Card Accounts, with the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, James Purnell applauding Lynda 'for standing up for people in Stourbridge and her local post offices'. Lynda also campaigned vigorously for the efforts of the Bevin Boys to be recognised by the government and lobbied the Government on behalf of Mrs Tina Thompson, to pay the full pension after her husband was killed while serving in the armed forces in Cyprus. In addition to the above, Lynda has regularly tabled and supported a number Early Day Motions on lap dancing clubs, alcohol misuse; supporting the Black Country's bid to become an urban park and on calling for greater recognition for the work of carers. In addition to this, she was chair of the Alcohol Misuse All Party Parliamentary Group, Vice-chair of the All-Party Heart Disease Group; Treasurer of the All-Party Waterways Group and Secretary to the All-Party Speech and Language Difficulties Group. |
